Moissanite, that sparkle city gorgeous rock that has been booming into recent popularity, get’s a pretty bad rap. With FAQs like, “is it tacky,” “does it last,” and “is moissanite worth it?” it’s easy to see why people are down on this glittery gem.
Or is it?! Can you smell the tea? TBH, moissanite is a fantastic diamond alternative. It’s got a good shine, it lasts, and it’s affordable as all get out. So here it is, all the reasons they want you to hate moissanite, and all the reasons we love it instead.
The fact that this is one of the first FAQs that pop up when you search moissanite low-key hilarious. While what is or isn’t tacky is largely up to individual opinion, the only cheugy vibes we are picking up is that someone is trying to talk you into less.
Moissanite is super sparkly, and some diamond companies try to drag it like that glitzy glitter is total ick. But whoever said that there was such a thing as too much sparkle?
For real, the high-key sparkle and fire rainbow flashes moissanite give off are what makes it super unique, and we absolutely stan. But if you want to cut down the sparkle, moissanite can also be cut to act more like a diamond.
All that shine may be a lot of things, but tacky certainly isn’t one of them. Just look at this gorge 3ct round moissanite in a 14k white gold Twig. Classic, obvi, snatched, for sure, tacky? Never.
LOL! Doesn’t last as compared to what? This one is totally bogus.
Moissanite is super hard. In fact it’s almost as hard as a diamond which ranks at a 10 on the mohs scale of hardness (moissanite is a 9.25). What does that mean? Well, basically nothing is going to scratch moissanite other than a diamond or another moissanite.
So really, we cannot fathom where this attempted drag might be originating from. Moissanite will last not just one, but several lifetimes. And it’ll look good doing it.
Ok, this one is low-key sus. Moissanite doesn’t get cloudy, why would it?
Check it out, remember that whole “moissanite is super hard” thing we were just on about? Yeah that. Nothing is going to scratch up this glitter rock other than diamonds or another moissanite. Unless you’re digging around in a bucket of loose gems (that sounds fun) it’s not that.
So what exactly is making it cloudy? We think this might go hand in hand with another moissanite FAQ, “can it get wet?” Which, spoiler alert, yes, it can get wet.
Generally, you should avoid getting harsh chemicals all over it (and your skin, ouch!) but that would mostly affect the metal. You also don’t really want to wear it in the shower, or while you do the dishes. But to be fair, these rules apply to all fine jewelry, not just moissanite.
While hot soapy water won't damage your ring, it might develop a layer of soapy buildup over time. So if your ring is looking cloudy, it might be time for a cleaning.
Fake what? A fake diamond? Because it’s not one. Moissanite sometimes gets compared to a diamond, but it’s an entirely different gemstone. While moissanite can be cut to shine just like a diamond, it’s a beautiful rock of its own variety.
No one is trying to claim that it is a diamond, only that it is a great, and very budget friendly, alternative to diamonds. Although if you want to claim it’s a diamond, you do you. With the right cut it’s hard to tell.
But, we digress. No, moissanite does not look fake. It does look like a gorge option for anyone who wants to score a chunky glow up without a chunky price tag tho. And we love to see it.
Ok, all tea, all shade, this one really seems like a major pick me moment form the diamond companies. Isn’t worth what? Looking gorge on your finger?
Moissanite is stunningly snatched, abundantly affordable, and looks great in any shape, and any setting. That low price? It allows you to get a bigger ring if you’d like one, and to save money if you don’t.
It also allows people with smaller budgets to get the ring they want, not just what they can afford. TBH an affordable alternative to diamonds is worth quite a lot in our book. So since we know it looks gorge and lasts forever, what is this really saying?
That only a diamond is worthy of your love? Big yikes to that cringy boomer narrative. A ring is a symbol, only you and your partner get to decide what is worthy about that symbol. Be it the money you put into it, or the feelings behind it.
Yeah, that’s why we love it. Have you been listening?
Moissanites affordability gets touted as a bad thing for some reason. But the truth is it's all about supply and demand, just like anything else. Lab diamonds are more expensive than moissanite because there is more demand.
Natural diamonds are even more expensive because there is demand… and also because the price has been artificially inflated by diamond cartels. You know, the usual.
But for real, why is affordability a bad thing? And when did things have to be overly expensive to be good? We love seeing our customers go home with big stones they never thought they could afford. It’s a good thing.
Any more questions? No, seriously, we’re happy to help. We’ve also got a full education center if you want to learn more about moissanite.
We think the only real question left to answer is why do people be dragging moissanite so hard? It’s a gorge sparklicious choice that will last a literal lifetime. On top of that, it’s price point makes going home with the engagement ring of your dreams a total reality. What’s not to love?
