How to Get Major Finger Coverage With a Delicate Band

How to Get Major Finger Coverage With a Delicate Band

We love oval engagement rings. All that sparklicious finger coverage means more bang for your buck when diamond shopping. But what if you want a big rock and a dainty band?

Delicate bands are everything. They can be simple or anything but, and they really let the diamond be the star of the show. Best of all, thin bands can flatter any finger. So if you’re ready to get your hands on one (finger in one?), here’s everything you need to know.

Oval-Whelmed With Sparkle

Ovals are a gorgeous shape for diamonds. They’re super versatile, look fantastic in any setting, and that gorge brilliant cut means they give off tons of sparkle. Just look at this little chunk of 3.5ct oval perfection!

On top of all that, they are giving big-time finger coverage, meaning the diamond will appear larger carat for carat. As an added bonus, that elongated shape is somewhat slimming. Paired with a delicate band, it’s a super flattering silhouette for any finger.

All The Way Little

So just how thin can a band be? Usually, we consider a delicate band to be anywhere from 1.3mm-2mm. Anything thinner than that, and the band tends to get distorted with wear. This goes double for active hands. There’s only so much that thin piece of gold can do!

Fear, not! It can do quite a bit. Settings with a 1.3mm band are strong enough for a lifetime of wear, and they still look super delicate. What we think of for an average band is around 2.5-3.5mm, so we’re talking half the thickness.
This Aria wedding band, for example, is just 1.5mm thick, and it could be the literal definition of delicate.

All That Glitters

We love a little glitz and glam, but what we really want is something that will last. So which type of gold will stand the test of time? So here's the tea. Yes, 14k gold is a bit stronger than 18k gold. But really, you’d have to deal some severe damage to dent an 18k gold ring.

Low key, anything you can throw at a 14k gold, the 18k can handle it too–within reason, of course. Both types of gold are excellent choices for delicate settings and thin bands.

If you’re super active, you might want to sway towards 14k. If, on the other hand, you’d like something a bit more lux, think 18k. Either way, this Hidden Halo Penelope is all the way gorge.

Stack Yourself Silly

One of the enormous advantages of tiny bands is they are oh-so-perfect for stacking, and we love a little stack. Dainty bands look great in delicate duos like this gorge The Mia engagement ring with a matching wedding band. It’s almost like they were made for each other…

On the other hand, why not go in the opposite direction and pair your thin oval engagement ring with a chonky eternity ring? Honestly, it’s a stunning combo. We live. Or hey, add it all together, wear all three bands together and jump into the thick of it. Options abound.

Elongated Life

Elongated stones like ovals have more surface area making the diamond appear larger carat for carat than a round brilliant. All that extra surface area combined with a thin band emphasizes the stone's size. If you’re looking to stretch your budget, going for a rock with maximum finger coverage is the way to go. And as an added bonus oval's elongated shape is slimming on the finger.

Check out the comparison, two gorgeous 2ct diamonds side by side, both in The Kamellie. Not gonna lie, that finger coverage really does the work, and that is why we are total oval stans.

More Oval C’s, Please

Ok, so you’re sold on those thin-banded baddies, and now you just need to pick the perfect oval diamond. No problem at all! You could always pop over to our education center for everything you could ever want to know. But you’re here now, so we’ll give you the cliff notes.

Cut is high-key, the most crucial factor no matter what diamond you’re buying, so always go for the highest quality here. A well-cut oval will shine bright and sidestep nasty bowties.

Color: You want that oval to appear colorless, but you don’t have to spend a fortune to get it done. G-H color diamonds will look absolutely gorge.

Clarity When it comes to ovals (or any diamond), buying more than an eye-clean diamond is never necessary. Look for a VS diamond if you’re going lab-grown, or save a little more cash on a natural stone by scoping out the SI department.

Big Rock, Smol Band, Perfect Harmony, You In?

We seriously can’t get enough of this thin band oval diamond combo. It’s the perfect marriage of delicate gold with the stunning sparkle and elongated look of that oh-so-gorgeous oval rock.

Whether you’re keeping it slim and solo, or saving room for the stack, you really can’t go wrong with the gorgeous combination of a whisper-thin band and a glorious chonk of an oval diamond. Big or small, we absolutely stan.
